Īgfa's suggestion for closed captioning fonts for TV is their Closed Captioning Font Set, which is based on Agfa Screen serif, Agfa Screen serif Monospaced, Agfa Screen Sans and Agfa Screen Sans Monospaced, and is supplemented with Plate Gothic, Ashley Script and Floridian.
